As part of the extensive urban regeneration of Stratford, close to the Olympic Park, Galliford Try created a substantial mixed use development at Rick Roberts Way.
The project saw the creation of 173 homes across a mixed use scheme of three apartment blocks, a crescent of terraced houses and 1,000m2 of commercial space with the intention of producing a varied and sustainable community of properties ranging from one bedroom flats to four bedroom townhouses.
FDS Contracting (FDS) was initially appointed to design, supply, install and commission a residential sprinkler system for the project by Woodford Heating Limited. The system serves 90 apartments across 13 floors in line with British Standards (BS9251:2005), which focuses on domestic sprinkler systems installed for life safety purposes.
Through taking a value engineered approach and offering a residential sprinkler system capable of utilising the blocks’ boosted cold water mains service, FDS was able to bring significant cost and space savings to the project by removing the need for an additional water tank to feed the system – allowing Galliford Try to make better use of the site’s plant room.
FDS was also contracted by electrical engineering contractor O.C.B. Electrical Limited to provide a natural smoke venting system for the project’s three apartment blocks, to allow smoke clearance for firefighting access and means of escape.
